Language support for "Basisschool" children in Amstelveen

Stichting Wereldbuur offers two different programs to support primary school children in Amstelveen who may need extra help with the Dutch language or their homework. Both programs are run by a team of an average of 70 enthusiastic volunteers who guide about 150 children.

De Taalvijver

Learning through play

De Taalvijver helps "Basisschool" children aged 4 to 12 (group 1 through 8) who are not sufficiently exposed to the Dutch language at home.​

Volunteers work individually with the children. The focus is on:

• Increasing their vocabulary
• Reading together and playing language games​
• Doing language exercises

Every Wednesday afternoon at different locations in Amstelveen.

Het Huiswerkpunt

Intensive one-on-one homework tutoring

​​Het Huiswerkpunt offers children from group 7 and 8 an individual approach.

Volunteers work individually with the children. The focus is on:

• Making homework together
• Helping with a presentation
• Reading and talking together and thereby increasing their vocabulary

Every Monday afternoon at one location in Amstelveen.

Conditions

The following rules apply to participation in both De Taalvijver and Het Huiswerkpunt:

• Children must live in Amstelveen and be enrolled in a local primary school.
• Children attending an international school are excluded from participation. 
• The assistance is generally provided for 1 year, with the possibility of extension after consultation.

• Parents or caregivers can register a child by sending an email.
• ​You can also go directly to one of the locations during activity times.
• Each location will determine whether there is an immediate spot available or if the child will be placed on a waiting list.
